Obituary For Cheryl Lynn (Hebner) Lawson

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Cheryl Lynn (Hebner) Lawson, our devoted and loving mother, sister and friend on Saturday, September 26, 2020, at the age of 57 years.

After what felt to us like an eternity of her fighting for her life in the Hospital in Penticton, BC, her body was unable to continue. Although her organs were failing, she passed pain-free, peacefully in her sleep with her children cuddled by her side and family close by.

Cheryl was well known for her contagious smile that always came from her heart. Always loving, fun, genuine, and a true friend to anyone whose lives she touched.

Cheryl is survived by her children Garrett and Amanda; granddaughter Ashlynn; adopted daughter Ashley (Matt); grandchildren Julia and Kai; sisters Janice and Debra (Keith): nieces and nephews: Justin, Stephanie, Samuel, Karyn and Hehley; as well as many other extended family and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Penticton Regional Hospital, they did all they could do to help Cheryl fight.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at 12:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave).

Here may we celebrate the joy Cheryl brought to all of our lives. We ask that out of respect that there be no alcohol consumed before or during this celebration of life.

Condolences

My sincere condolences to Debbie, Janice, Amanda, Garrett,Ashlynn, and family. I was so shocked and heartbroken to hear of Cheryl's passing. Its taken me a while to deal with the fact that's she's really gone. This family has had a lot of loss over the years and to deal with another just seems so unfair. Cheryl had a much better memory than I but I think we met in around grade 3. I do remember she was the cutest little girl with the biggest smile and an even bigger heart. We became best pals and pretty much went through everything together as best friends do, learning some life lessons along the way. We laughed, cried, fought and made up, wore too much make up, wore our jeans too tight, chased too many boys, sang our hearts out to our favourite songs, ( we loved the movie Grease), and of course thought we knew everything. I loved Cheryl's family like my own and they treated me like their fifth child. Norma loved to have her hair brushed and I would take over when Cheryl had enough. I didn't mind as I would be rewarded with her matrimonial squares which were the best. We had lots of laughs with Grant as well.(and a few fights as I recall a vase flying across the living room). He was such a good kid and funny too. I still remember him calling their dog Patches, Haddam Paddam. I was always at Cheryl's house hanging out or sleeping over. Sneaking out was one of our favourite things to do. I remember one time Lavern knew of our plans and followed us around the neighbourhood as we toilet papered houses. He even scaled a high fence like a 20 year old. We were very impressed for about 10 seconds, then we knew we were in trouble. Seems like we were grounded every other week. That was one of our favourite memories to laugh and reminisce about with Laverne. I'm not sure what life lesson was learned there. I guess that Laverne was in better shape than we thought. These are just a few of my favorite memories that I cherish and I'm so glad I went through with Cheryl. She was such a positive bubbly and fun girl. Although we never saw each other for years we always kept in touch sharing pictures, stories, and updating each other on our lives. She was still the best friend I ever had and I will miss her deeply. She will always be in my heart. Rest in peace my friend and give your mom and dad and Grant a hug from me. Evie, Jeff, Tate and Tia van de Bennet
