We offer families the opportunity to prepare and submit obituary notices written in their own words. We believe this allows each tribute to authentically reflect the life and legacy of the individual. To honour each tribute, obituaries are published as approved by the family.

Obituary For Charlie Edward Wasowicz
Charlie Edward Wasowicz, resident of Leduc, AB, formerly of Spirit River, AB, passed away from cancer on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at the Leduc Community Hospital at the age of 74 years.
Charlie was born on January 16, 1952, in Spirit River to Frank and Josie Wasowicz. Charlie was raised on a farm northwest of Spirit River and attended school in the same town. He later ventured on to attend Fairview Agricultural College in Fairview, AB.
Charlie was a tall and spiritual man who worked hard, always to the best of his abilities. His passions were in history and inventions—how they were made and who invented them. He was a tour guide at the Spirit River Museum. He loved to explain the performance of the article he was showing and who invented that article. Charlie was an avid reader and loved westerns by William Johnstone. He would easily get lost in a good novel while sitting in his leather recliner.
Charlie was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Josie Wasowicz; his baby sister, Antonia; both sets of grandparents; along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins throughout Canada and Poland.
Charlie is survived by his sister, Marjorie (Lynn) Hansen, their son, Shawn Hansen, daughter Melody (Kevin) Nelson and their children, Tanya (Sid) and Vanessa (Jason); his brother, Frank (Roselyn) Wasowicz, their children, Katherine, Jackson, and Elizabeth, and her daughter, Delilah (Kade); and his sister, Valorie (Kris) Rodts, their son, Dexter, and his children, Isaac and Oliver. Charlie also leaves to mourn his cousins in Spirit River, St. Albert, Poland, and South Africa.
The graveside service will take place on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Spirit River Catholic Cemetery.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Rest in peace, our brother. You will always be remembered and always loved.

"Charlie, not Charles — you made sure we knew the difference. And somehow, even those simple words will always make me smile. You had a love for the West, for cowboys, horses, and the stories that belonged to another time. You could lose yourself in a western novel, turning the pages and travelling back to a world you knew so well. But what I'll remember most is how you could talk about history. You didn't just know it — you brought it to life. You had a story for everything, a piece of history to share, and I could sit and listen because I knew how much it meant to you. And then there were the things that sparked your curiosity — light, batteries, inventions, and how the world came to be. You loved understanding things. You loved learning about the olden days. You loved sharing what you knew. That was Charlie. And now I wish I could have just one more conversation with you. One more story about the Old West. One more lesson about history. One more time hearing you explain something you found fascinating. I would listen a little longer this time. Charlie, not Charles — I'll remember your name, your stories, your curiosity, and the way you could make the past feel alive. You may no longer be here to tell us your stories, but they will live on in us. And every time I think of you, I'll smile and say it the way you liked it: Charlie — not Charles. And we'll miss you." Lovingly written by his sister, Valorie
