Obituary For Charles Brian Goodings
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Brian Goodings on Thursday, June 25, 2026, following a brief battle with cancer. He was 65 years old.
Charles was born on March 31, 1961, in Hythe, Alberta, the third child of Jack and Norma Goodings. He graduated from Beaverlodge Regional High School in 1979 and spent most of his life in the Hythe area, with several years living in Red Deer.
Never one to be idle, Charles began working while still in high school at Oakford’s Hardware in Hythe and McLeod’s in Beaverlodge. After graduation, he worked for Lodge Lumber as a truck driver. During that time, he was involved in a serious three-vehicle accident that resulted in a severe head injury. Following his recovery, he worked at Canfor unloading trucks, but his passion for driving soon led him back behind the wheel. Charles joined the oil and gas industry, where he spent the remainder of his career driving frac trucks. His work took him throughout Canada and the United States. In his later years, he also enjoyed helping a local farmer during harvest season.
Charles had a passion for gardening and took great pride in growing an abundant harvest, which he generously shared with family, friends, and neighbours. He also enjoyed sharing his gardening knowledge and tips with anyone willing to listen. Always on the go, Charles loved visiting with others, playing games, and discussing current events. His knowledge often inspired lively conversations, with many checking the facts—only to discover that Charles was usually right. He always had an opinion and never hesitated to share it, even if others disagreed. Good-natured banter was one of life’s simple pleasures for him.
Charles was the proud father of two children, Jessica Leigh Goodings and Shawn Kelly Goodings.
He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Norma Goodings; his brother, Arnett Goodings; his sister, Irene (Rene Sterkenburg); his nephew, Derek Sterkenburg (Allana); his great-nephew, Blake; his great-niece, Dylan; his niece, Stacey (Jamey Rey); as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
Charles was predeceased by his father, Jack Goodings; his brother, Raymond Goodings; his sister-in-law, Sheila Goodings; and his grandparents, Charles and Bertha Hidlebaugh, Patricia Goodings, and Bill and Lila Goodings.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the many relatives who showed their love and support by spending countless hours visiting Charles and bringing him homemade treats and thoughtful gifts. Your kindness, generosity, and companionship meant so much to him and to our family.
A special thank you is also extended to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Beaverlodge Regional Hospital and Hythe Continuing Care. Your compassion, kindness, and exceptional care will always be remembered with gratitude.
In keeping with Charles’ wishes, there will be no funeral service. He will be laid to rest at the Hythe Cemetery alongside his family.
