We offer families the opportunity to prepare and submit obituary notices written in their own words. We believe this allows each tribute to authentically reflect the life and legacy of the individual. To honour each tribute, obituaries are published as approved by the family.

Obituary For Charlene Ardith Metcalf-Buziak
Charlene Metcalf-Buziak, beloved mother of Kyle Buziak, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, March 2, 2026, in Grande Prairie, AB, at the age of 74 years.
Charlene was born in Medicine Hat, AB, on August 17, 1951. She was welcomed into the family by her parents, Weldon and Viola Metcalf and big brother, Calvin. Charlene was the first daughter and first granddaughter on both sides of the family. She grew up in Medicine Hat, but lived in many communities across Alberta and Saskatchewan, including Calgary and Edmonton, before settling in Grande Prairie in 1978. Charlene graduated from Monsignor McCoy High School (formerly McCoy High School) in Medicine Hat. She was an academic student who thrived in school. She was also very involved in cheerleading and was head cheerleader. Following her graduation, she went on to earn her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta.
Charlene taught with the Grande Prairie Catholic School Division and also provided adult education at Northwestern Polytechnic (formerly Grande Prairie Regional College). After several years of teaching, she made a career change and went to work for the Ministry of Assisted Living and Social Services. There, she developed educational programs and taught life skills to her clients. Charlene completed her career by working in group homes.
An avid fan of the outdoors, she enjoyed camping, hiking, skiing, and snowshoeing. Charlene loved reading and cooking. For many years, she volunteered with the Special Olympics. She was a kind and caring mother who loved spending time with her children. Some of her fondest memories were made while camping with her children, Kyle and Robyn, or when they simply stayed home. Charlene enjoyed cooking for them, relaxing together, and watching movies.
Charlene is survived by her son, Kyle Buziak of Edmonton; her sisters, Judy Branner of Calgary and Kimberly Metcalf of Calgary; and her sister-in-law, Wanda Metcalf of Calgary. She was the beloved aunt of seven nieces and nephews: Jason, Tara, Sean, Sarah, Michael, Victoria, and Emily. She is also survived by her best friend and companion: her poodle, Belle.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Robyn Buziak; her parents, Weldon and Viola Metcalf; her brother, Calvin; and her nephews, Nathan and Nigel.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass at St. Gerard's Catholic Church (8944 Elbow Dr SW, Calgary, AB). Reception to follow in the parish hall. The date and time will be announced in the near future.
For those who cannot attend in person, the funeral will be livestreamed on the St. Gerard's Catholic Church YYC YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@st.gerardscatholicchurchyy2257.
While every effort is made to ensure a smooth livestream, technical or broadcast issues may occasionally occur beyond the control of Oliver’s Funeral Home.
