Obituary For Catherine Toth

Cathy Toth resident or Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2022, at Prairie Lake Hospice, at the age of 59 years.

Cathy was born in Port Alberni, BC, on November 20, 1962. She was raised in Port Alberni where she attended school before she moved to Port Alice, BC. Cathy finished high school and moved on to college for Dental Assisting in Campbell River, BC.

Cathy had a very kind heart and did very well while working in the dental industry; her enjoyable employment was at Mayfair Dental in Victoria, BC. She was a very intelligent woman and people were drawn to her infectious smile and cheerful demeanor, and she made friends everywhere she went. She met and fell in love with Robert “Bob” Toth, they married on October 10, 1998, in Saanichton, BC. She became a stepmother/best friend to Melissa Maack (nee Toth) and Kristy Toth, also a grandmother to Brooklyn Atkins, and later Tristan Toth, Avarie Atkins, and Brooklyn Maack.

Cathy loved to go for walks, read novels, singing, and painting. She was also a biker babe that knew how to have a good time, and participated in many biker events all over British Columbia.

Cathy and Bob moved to Grande Prairie in May of 2014, to be near their children and grandchildren. She decided to switch careers and became an oilfield medic. Unfortunately, after only 2 years of living in Alberta, Cathy was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. It was an uphill battle, but she conquered cancer in 2016. Cathy continued to enjoy life and was the bell of the ball until the battle of Breast Cancer came back and continued through her body to her brain which then became terminal. She spent her last 3 months in Prairie Lake Hospice, where she was very well cared for and met some great people. Cathy leaves behind her mother and sisters of Port Alice, BC; husband Bob Toth; daughters Melissa (Victor) Maack and Kristy Toth (Kris Steel); as well as grandchildren: Brooklyn Atkins, Tristian Toth, Avarie Atkins, and Brooklyn Maack. She will be forever missed by all that loved her. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 7:00pm, at the Jackpot Grill (10904 92 Ave.).

Memorial Donations may be made to Breast Cancer Society of Canada (420 East St North, Sarnia, ON, N7T 6Y5).

I was fortunate to meet and work with Cathy at the Mayfair Dental Center. We quickly became friends. We rode our bikes together, went on hikes, and participated in the Great Walk up island. I will always remember how she could answer any of my 'plant' questions without missing a beat and I would think to myself, 'is she dazzling me with her brilliance or baffling me with her bullshit!' Be free of pain my friend, see you on the other side. ♥ Mimi
