Obituary For Carolena Ruth Cox

It is with sad hearts that the family of Carolena Cox announce her passing on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at the age of 82 years. Ruth was the most generous, loving person, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend; her kindness will be forever missed.

Ruth was born on June 20, 1941, in Hines Creek, AB, to Hugo and Charlotte Vanberg. Growing up on the family farm, she was a great help to her mother and father as a caring older sister to six brothers, and a moment never went by when they weren’t on her mind.

In 1958, Ruth married Robert (Bob) Cox, and they homesteaded in the David Thompson area. They were blessed with two daughters, Tammy and Tracy. They decided to sell the farm in 1991, and moved to Grande Prairie, where she resided until her passing. Throughout the years, her love of farming continued; she raised cattle for many years, and could be found in the blueberry patch in her spare time. Ruth was hard-working, and will forever be remembered for her dedication, determination, and ability to accomplish more than expected.

Ruth cherished her family wholeheartedly, and was a constant source of guidance, wisdom, and support. Her greatest joy was time spent with her daughters, their spouses, and five precious grandchildren. Her brothers and their families were always incredibly dear to her, and the phone calls, updates, and messages filled her heart with happiness.

Ruth is survived by her daughter Tammy (Shayne); grandchildren: Taralyn, Blake, Brody, Luke and Natasha; daughter Tracy (Terry) and her special granddog Missy; sister Janet; brothers: Elmer (Edith), Ken (Yvette), Gerald (Mira), and Bruce (Mary); nieces and nephews: Sharon, Dale, Blair, Wanda, Sheila, Eldon, Larry, Ernie, Pam, Lona, Kevin, Lori, Tansy, Domine, Treena, Cindy, Lance, Randy, Brian, Tanya, Danny, and Stacey, as well as all their families.

Ruth was predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob); parents Charlotte and Hugo; brothers Hugo (Son) and David; sisters-in-law Margaret and Doreen; nephew Lavern; and brother-in-law John.

The family would like to express deepest thanks to those who helped support Ruth, including her friend Lawrence, who made her days brighter, and her daughter Tracy, who assisted her daily and ensured she went home to spend time with Missy, her special dog.

There will be no service held at this time. A Graveside Memorial will take place at a later date.

I remember "Tammy's kids gramma" being so happy around the kids. My 3 came over to play, as they often did, and when the ice cream truck came she made sure they were included and bought all the kids treats. A loving lady indeed.

First I would like to send heartfelt Condolences to the family of Carolena Ruth Cox. Ruth as I knew her was a very special friend. We shared 52 + years of friendship no matter from where I lived. I never did know her true name was Carolena and I love that name by the way. We had many good visits together , @ shared so much laughter during our visits. It was a pleasure to be her friend. In later years she moved to Grande Prairie @ I did'nt see her as often as I'd like but she was always in my heart @ mind. We still would talk on the phone. Ruth was a very hard worker. When I went to work in bush camps Rainbow Lake , Zama Ruth took over my job at the motel. It was very hard demanding work yet she stuck to the job until she moved to GP. They said they finally found someone who could do the work of 3 men . They were very happy with her work ethic. Ruth would tell me I'm the sister she never had for whatever reason I dont know. Another part of her personality I loved she was very real @ I like that side of people, friends in general. I have wonderful memories of our times together. I had a chuckle today thinking of this story. We one time went up to Manning to pick up a Jersey cow Ruth purchased from my other friend living up there at the time. So she had the stock racks on the truck @ away we went. We picked up the Jersey cow from Shirley Gibson/ Lehoux and drove back. We arrived in Grimshaw and Ruth decided she wanted a Cherryblossom chocolate bar. So she pulled into the service station and did just that. I stayed in the truck. She came back to the truck and proceeded to eat her Cherryblossom bar before continuing on our journey. Somehow the sweetness of the bar inside went down the wrong way @ she was coughing @ choking ' laughing. I laughed so hard along with her I will never forget that time together. We were quite the pair. We carried on to Fairview as I was living here at the time. She went on to her farm between Hines Creek @ David Thompson hall at that time , unloaded the animal all was good. She kept that cow for many years and ended up taking it to Grande Prairie with her. Rented out a piece of land and kept her for many years later. She loved her cows. And continued to work out for many years later. Ruth you will definately be missed. Rest In Peace my friend, until me meet again. Love @ hugs. Sorry for such a large loss to Tammy @ Tracey @ grandchildren.

I just want to send condolences to Tracy. Your mom and yourself were always there for the staff at Prairie Haven. What a dedicated worker your mom was..She was a pioneer to give of herself and give of herself with all she had.. The fond memories of those days will always stay in many of our minds.. May God give you strength to go forward..

Auntie Ruth will be missed greatly by so many. I am thankful for the great memories we will cherish forever including that cute little laugh of hers. She worked so hard but always thought of others first and always had time for us neices and nephews regardless how much she had to do. She was grateful for her girls, adored her grandchildren and looked forward to any sleepovers they had. We will continue to think of her often, remember so many good times and send you all alot of love during this very difficult time.
