Obituary For Brian Woodrow Dodd

Brian Woodrow Dodd, a long-time resident of Sexsmith, AB passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at Grande Prairie Regional Hospital at the age of 71 years.

Brian was born in Drumheller, AB on April 25, 1952. He was the youngest of four children born to Alvin and Nora Dodd. Brian spent his early years on the family farm near Delia, AB. In 1964, the family relocated to the farm atop Mercer Hill near Clairmont, AB.

Brian found his career as an electrician and proudly highlighted all the projects he had worked on in the Grande Prairie area over the decades. He was a long-time member of the Sexsmith Elks, faithfully attending meetings and volunteering at community events throughout the years.

Brian took pride in his children’s extracurricular activities and spent years supporting them at hockey games, skating competitions, football games and dance recitals, both near and far from home. He enjoyed travelling and saw many parts of the world, Canada, and the US throughout his life. In his later years, he was enamoured with his grandchildren’s various activities.

Brian will be lovingly missed by his children: Corey (Sheri) of West Kelowna, BC, Danica (Luke) of Elmira, ON and Derek (Adele) of New York, NY; grandchildren: Caisen, Danity, Kaius Dodd, London, and Ward Chamberlain; sister Lorraine (Tom) Glendinning of Grande Prairie, AB; sister-in-law Pat Dodd; mother-in-law Opal Burtt of Centreville, NB; sisters-in-law Sandra (Norm) Gray, Rhonda (Randy) Myles and Gerri Burtt; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and family friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Janet (Burtt) Dodd in 1999; parents Alvin and Nora Dodd; brothers Bernard and Russell (Mary); father-in-law Robert Burtt; brother-in-law Bobby Burtt and sister-in-law Patsy (Burtt) Greer.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 1:00pm at Clairmont United Church (9915 100 Ave.) in Clairmont, AB. Interment will be at Emerson Trail Cemetery with a Luncheon to follow at the Clairmont United Church.

    Thinking of the family. We surprised Janet and Brian with a video of their wedding many years ago but always remember how happy they were when they watched.
