Obituary For Brenda Connie Christenson (nee McKee)

Brenda Christenson, a resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of McKague, SK, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at the age of 73 years.

Brenda was born on July 7, 1950, in the small town of Tisdale, SK, and resided in the hamlet of McKague where her parents, Russell and Dorothy McKee, raised Brenda and her siblings: Bev Stroshein, Kelly McKee, and Vicki Cliff.

When Brenda got older, she moved to Edmonton and found the love of her life, got married, and began to raise a family. They relocated to Grande Prairie in 1976 and made a home as they grew their family.

Although Brenda was in a city now, she maintained her small-town values and sense of hard work. She could fight tooth and nail but loved just as fiercely.

Brenda was very active in the CKC and loved showing her dogs. She travelled extensively while showing the Shelties she bred and raised.

Brenda will be much missed by her husband, Dan; children: Chris (Michelle), Danielle, and Chad; and granddaughter Mallory.

Brenda was predeceased by her parents, Russell and Dorothy McKee.

The family has asked that instead of flowers, consider making a donation in Brenda’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society AB/NWT Division (200, 325 Manning Road NE Calgary, AB T2E 2P5) or a local animal shelter.

I have known Brenda for a little over 10 years. She was definitely a fire cracker and I loved working with her. She had an infectious laugh and always had the biggest smile. She was always telling us about her dogs and horses. My favorite memory of her is when I walked into the lunchroom one day and I saw her standing with one leg on a chair and she was inside a microwave, cleaning it, well omg I was laughing 😂 and I said to her "we have people who clean that?!" And well she came out and looked at me and says "they aren't doing their job now are they, or I wouldn't be half inside this thing haha!" My last memory of Brenda was when she came through my till at the end of her shift (which she always did 🥰) and she was buying stuff for her lunch, I asked her if it was going to be enough and she said no but it'll do and laughed; I walked around my till and put her groceries in her cart, then I gave her a hug and she said "see you tomorrow" and that was the last time I saw her😢. She will be deeply missed. My condolences to the rest of her family ❤️ RIP Brenda ❤️

Brenda has been my "other mother" for 42 years now - in dogs and more importantly, in my life! We spoke almost weekly since I moved away from GP 12 years ago and she came to visit a few times as well - and of course we met up every year in GP for the dog show. She even showed up in FSJ a few years ago bringing me boxes of her Sheltie memorabilia, which of course is even more treasured now. I miss you and love Bren. There are no good byes - only 'catch up soons!' We will meet again but until then... keep on loving all our dogs up there , we'll catch up again! 💔
