Obituary For Bonnie Lyn Bexson

Bonnie Lyn Bexson, passed away peacefully at Prairie Lake Hospice in Grande Prairie, AB, on Friday, November 11, 2022, with her lifelong partner and husband, Owen, by her side, at the age of 78 years. Her legacy lives on through Bonnie’s three children: Jeffrey, Guy (Carmel), and Waverley (Clinton), along with her five grandchildren: Dillon, Cayla, Jonathan, Owen, and Falyn.

Bonnie was born on May 18, 1944, in Winnipeg, MB. The eldest daughter of Alice Winnifred “Winnie” Condon, and her adopted father Peter Paul. She had four siblings Peter (Mandy), Danea (Murray), Colleen (John), and Kay.

At the age of five, Bonnie and her parents relocated to Calgary, AB. She attended King George School in Northwest Calgary and Bowness High School where she was on the gymnastics team, and acquired her love for language, literature, and poetry. Bonnie began working at age 15 as Teletype Operator for The Albertan newspaper where she met lifelong friends. Later, she worked at the Calgary Herald for many years before she left to be a bookkeeper for the family business and ranch.

On January 18, 1964, Bonnie married Owen Bexson. Bonnie, Owen, and their children lived in various places in and around Calgary, including Indus, Chestermere, and High River, before relocating to Kamloops, BC, and finally settling in Grande Prairie.

Bonnie, referred to as “Bubby” by her husband, enjoyed music, dancing, playing cards, backgammon, and games with family and friends. Through the years, Bonnie and Owen were known for their welcoming home where they hosted a generation of get-togethers and celebrations filled with laughter, fun, and good food. These are memories that will long be cherished by those loved ones who attended.

“It is attitude rather than aptitude that determines altitude” by Zig Ziglar was one of Bonnie's favourite quotes and was often her advice to her children and grandchildren.

Bonnie will always be cherished, remembered, and dearly missed. “The song may be over, but the melody lingers on.” - Irving Berlin

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the nurses and staff at Prairie Lake Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bonnie’s memory may be made to the Grande Prairie Palliative Care Society (#204, 10134 97 Ave., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 7X6).

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring/Summer of 2023. Details of the service will be updated at a later date.
