Obituary For Bob Roessler

It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of Bob (Robert) Roessler on December 22, 2025, at the age of 72 after a long battle with cancer.

Bob was born on March 9, 1953, as the second son to Fred and Evelyn Roessler in Sexsmith, AB. Bob was raised on the farm outside of Sexsmith, where he was taught the virtue of hard work, as well as to truly love and respect the farm life. He left briefly as an adult, moving to Grande Prairie to an apartment that just happened to be across the street from a beautiful girl, his future wife, Lynda. Bob started building his adult life by working at Midwest Electric, GP Carland, Bearing Bolt, Stojans Chev Olds, and Sexsmith Fertilizer. Even though he was doing well, the pull of the farm and the life he loved was still very strong. Bob and Lynda were married on May 4, 1974, and it was then that he started working toward a move back to the farm.

Bob and Lynda built a house on the home quarter and raised their family in the ways of the farm life, as his parents had done for him. In 1980, Bob started building a feedlot and was never happier. He was one of the hardest-working people we have ever known. He took great joy in working alongside and caring for his parents, who lived in the same yard for many years. Bob’s life was filled with everything he loved. Rodeos were the activity of choice for many years, travelling every weekend to a new town for a local rodeo, family in tow, where he team roped and calf roped. He built many lifelong friendships along the way.

Bob also had a great love for hunting and being in the bush. He spent many years with packhorses and his friends, hunting and fishing in the mountains. Bob was always known as the breakfast cook at hunting camp, and he took pride in the time spent with his hunting companions. Even while keeping busy with everything he loved, Bob always ensured the farm was taken care of. He spent countless hours tending to the cattle. He was devoted to everything he set his mind to and spent much time researching and making improvements to ensure his cattle always had the best. The farm left little time for holidays, but later on in life, Bob and Lynda were able to spend many winters with their friends in Arizona. Bob loved the warm weather and enjoyed golfing almost every day.

The hard-earned success of the feedlot allowed him and Lynda to sell the farm and retire to Grande Prairie in 2009. During these years, Bob worked for Aquatera and Fountain Tire, then finally landed his dream job, working for Greg Sears back on the farm. Bob spent his free time golfing, curling, and playing ball. He even travelled to Sr’s ball tournaments, making even more special friends along the way.

Bob was a devoted husband, father, and Papa. He worked tirelessly to always provide for his family in every way. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 51 years, Lynda; his children, Scott (Amanda) Roessler and Stacey (Kelvin) Twerdochlib; his pride and joy—his grandchildren, Jesse and Jordan Roessler, Taryn (Mason) White, and Regan and Breya Twerdochlib; brothers Gary (Pat) and Dennis (Colleen); and many special friends. We will miss you every day.

The celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave). Following the service, friends are invited to join the family for a luncheon in Oliver’s Tea Room.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation (albertacancer.ca/donate/).

I used to warn lady ball players playing first base to be very alert when he was batting because he could hit a line drive down first like no one else I had ever played with. And I played with my share of great ball players. Sure will miss you my friend.🙏

As always, Linda, our love and prayers are with you and the family. We have so many fond memories of time spent together. Bob and Jim were the best of friends and two of the greatest story tellers I know. Get them together and they would feed off each other. The laughs we had were wonderful. How many times did they say it was a miracle they survived some of the things they got themselves into? Now, they can do it heaven, along with some of their other good buddies. Hold dear to the memories of the time you had together. All our love. Rob and Mary Jean
