Obituary For Beryl Elizabeth Hotte

Beryl Elizabeth Hotte, long time resident of Hythe, AB, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, at the age of 81 years.

Beryl was born in Edmonton, AB, on April 13, 1941, and was chosen by Ted and Irene Cook to be their daughter. She was raised on the family farm at Hythe, with her brother Bob.

Beryl married Leo Hotte in 1958. Once Beryl’s parents retired and moved into Hythe, Beryl and Leo took over the family farm and raised their five children there. When Leo passed away in April of 2002, Beryl continued to live on the family farm until her passing. She was more than capable of looking after mowing the big yard, rototilling the garden, and shoveling the snow off the sidewalk. Many thanks to neighbor and good friends, Frank and Trudy Loewen, for making sure the driveway was plowed so Beryl could do her daily trips to town to go for coffee and to get the mail.

Beryl worked at the Hythe Hospital/Care Centre for many years. When she retired, she volunteered her time at the Hythe Community Thrift Shop.

Beryl enjoyed reading, knitting, crosswords, jigsaw puzzles, gardening, and spending time with family, grandkids, and friends.

She will be dearly missed by her children: Richard (Kerry), Fred (Crystal), Barbara (Merlyn) Mayer, and Leslie (Bill) Sherba; grandchildren: Justin (Michelle), Dawn (Cody), Jesse (Darcy), Megan (Cordell), Mackenzie, Madison (Bradley), Shelley (Tyler), Pat (Chantelle), Leonard (Jackie), Edward (Danielle), and Johnathan; 13 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins;

as well as sisters in-law Gloria Lock, Coreen Evaskevich (Paul), and Margaret Blair-Cook.

She was predeceased by her parents; loving husband of 43 years Leo Hotte (April 2002); daughter Cheryl Albert (June 2006); brother Bob Cook (April 2019); as well as grandson Ryan Hotte (January 2022).

Special thanks to the EMS teams, and the staff at the Beaverlodge and Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, for their care and compassion.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 2:00pm, at the Royal Canadian Legion in Hythe (9818 100 Ave.).

Memorial donations may be made to the Beaverlodge Hospital Foundation (P.O. Box 480, Beaverlodge, AB, T0H 0C0), or to a charity of one’s choice.
