We offer families the opportunity to prepare and submit obituary notices written in their own words. We believe this allows each tribute to authentically reflect the life and legacy of the individual. To honour each tribute, obituaries are published as approved by the family.

Obituary For Bernard (Barry) Joseph David Dodich

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Bernard (Barry) Joseph David Dodich on September 24, 2024, in Grande Prairie, Alberta, after a sudden and courageous battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Pat, his partner of 50 years.

Barry was born on September 13, 1951, in Vancouver, British Columbia, to his parents, Joseph and Eva Dodich. It was there that Barry attended school and worked at the racetrack through the summers because of his love of horses. Following school, he studied at UBC and worked for the Drafting Department at Vancouver City Hall and then for the B.C. Assessment Authority in various provincial locations for 25 years. After this, he went on to work in Kelowna, British Columbia, as a safety officer and carpenter for OCorp. In his spare time, he enjoyed volunteering with St. John Ambulance, Cars for Cancer, and The Bistro at the Parkinson Recreation Centre, where he formed many happy memories.

He is deeply missed by his wife, Pat. Barry was very proud of his family: Jennifer/Addie, Tyler, and Megan/Jon, as well as his grandchildren, to whom he gave guidance and unconditional love: Aiden, Keira, Dylan, Lexie, Daxson, and Nyha. His siblings: Brian, Frank, and Joanne/Rick; many cherished extended family members, including cousins Bob/Stephanie Hourie and Rick/Brenda Hourie; and his dear friends, Sean, Samantha, and Roger.

Some of Barry’s hobbies consisted of woodworking, guitar, music, pickleball, hiking in nature, and biking. He was an animal lover and deeply treasured the companionship of his dogs. Barry will be remembered for a warm heart, always lending a hand, and having a wonderful sense of humor that brought smiles to those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of deep family connection.

The family would like to express gratitude for the amazing care provided to Barry by the staff at Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.

We will miss him endlessly. Until we meet again, we love you, always.
