Obituary For Balbir "Bill" Garcha

Balbir "Bill" Garcha of Grande Prairie, Alberta, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, in his home at the age of 60 years.

Balbir was born on March 1, 1966, in Katana, India. He moved to Grande Prairie in 1986 with his older brother, Makhan (Mike) Garcha, and mother, Karam Kaur Garcha. Never shying away from hard work, Balbir worked various jobs in tree planting, cleaning, and home building. For the past 25 years, he enjoyed serving his community as a taxi driver.

Balbir will be greatly missed by his wife, Sukhdevinder (Sukhi); his children, Jivtesh, Kurneesh, and Kelly; his grandchildren, Hannah and Maia; his brothers and sisters-in-law; his sister and brother-in-law; nieces and nephews; and many friends.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Oliver's Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Avenue). Following the service, Antam Ardas will be performed at Gurdwara Sahib Grande Prairie (9402 92C Street), with Langar being served.

For those who cannot attend in person, the funeral service will be livestreamed. The livestream link will be available shortly before the service begins.

    Dearest Mami Ji, Jiv, Karneesh and family. Writing this message almost feels surreal given it was only a few months ago that you all blessed us with your visit to the UK. I so enjoyed all your company, but especially Balbir Mama Ji's. The conversations we had whilst playing Darts at Surjit Paji's house, the discussions about his love for classic cars and his general outlook on life and what he was looking forward to doing in the future will stay with me forever. The sad irony is, him explaining to me that one of his key reasons for visiting his Sister and Brother in Law in the UK was due to the fact that they were of course getting older, with some health concerns, so he really wanted to see them. Little did we know that God had plans to take him away from us all so quickly. I'm again sorry I can not be with you in person today, but I will be streaming live from the UK and will be with you in spirit. All my love and condolences. John Bains x

    My sincere condolences to Suhki and her family during this very difficult time 😥. Bill was an amazing man and will be dearly missed by myself and so many people. Not only was Bill our driver to Andre and I for many occasions but he was also a friend. He was the only driver that I trusted and I gave his name to many people who needed a cab. I'll miss seeing him in that Canadian Cab driving around. Hugs to the family ❤️!
