Obituary For Anne Williamena Soucy

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts, that we the family mourn the passing of our beautiful mom Anne Soucy from Grande Prairie, AB on Monday, February 26, 2024 at the age of 70 years. She passed away at Prairie Lake Hospice with such grace, courage and strength from her short battle with cancer. Both her son and daughter were lovingly by her side.

Anne was born on March 28, 1953 in New Westminster, BC. She lived a remarkable life as a long-haul truck driver for many of her working years. She often talked proudly about how she drove through almost every state in the US and also every province, except for one, in Canada.

When Anne gave up her Class 1 license, she found great joy in moving to Grande Prairie in 2014 to be closer to her children and their families. She filled her days making her home beautiful and cozy… always a project on the go. She also spent many hours in her yard adding trees, shrubs and many garden boxes which were filled with good food that she enjoyed preserving. In her words, “Her family would never go hungry.” Anne also had a deep love for animals and spent a lot of time caring for her many dogs over the years. When she called, she always had something to tell you about them.

Anne will be sadly missed by her son and daughter-in-law Jason and Colleen Notenbomer and daughter and son-in-law Nicole and Chad Seely; grandchildren: Keannah (Chad) Robitaille, Carson Seely, Kolton (Joely), Taner (Jenna) and Mckenzy Notenbomer; two great-grandchildren Blayke and Rylie Robitaille (who loved their GG very much, she always had a treat for them); father Barry Smith; sisters Linda (Denis) Enkurs and Rachel Smith; brother Don (Lori) Smith; as well as many nieces & nephews.

Anne was predeceased by her mother Jeannette Smith and partner of many years Gale Pickwell, who together spent countless hours driving many miles down the highway. They made a great team in and out of the truck.

The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the nurses, doctors, staff and volunteers at the Points West Hospice. It is with great appreciation and love that we thank you for taking the best care of our mother and showing such compassion to her and us. We would also like to thank Dr. Cele for always listening to our mom, treating her with respect and taking her concerns seriously.

A Celebration of her life will be held in May of 2024 while we lay her to rest in a spot chosen by her family. “Somewhere Beautiful” as she requested, and a place where the birds will sing for her every day.

If individuals so desire memorial donations be made to an animal rescue organization of choice in Anne’s honour, or to Points West Hospice through the Grande Prairie Palliative Care Society (gpcare.ca/volunteer-or-donate/), where they help immensely with the process of losing a loved one.

Mom cared for her family and often said she wanted us to “Just be Happy” in her final days. That’s all she truly wanted. You will be dearly missed by us all Mom, Grandma and GG!
