Obituary For Anne Redekopp

Anne Redekopp, resident of Silver Valley, AB, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023, in Grande Prairie, AB, at the age of 92 years.

Anne was born December 20, 1930, in Saskatoon, SK, to John H. and Aganetha Dyck, the second of twelve children. The family lived in Saskatchewan and when Anne was 15 years old, then they moved to Barnwell, AB. During that time Anne met Karl, the love of her life, and they were married November 12, 1950. Their first daughter, Zola, was born a year later in Taber, AB. With Karl and Anne’s young love for each other, and their sense of adventure, they quickly saved enough money to move to Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON. During that time Glen, Jane, and Karen were born.

In 1959, the family headed back west and settled in Coaldale, AB. While living in Coaldale, the youngest child, Lisa completed the family. During those years in southern Alberta, a number of foster children were lovingly welcomed into their home. Then in 1972, Anne and Karl decided that they wanted a simpler lifestyle, and they moved up north to Silver Valley on a ¼ section of bush land close to the mighty Peace River.

Anne loved people and made life-long friends wherever they lived. Her family was her everything and she was selfless in caring for them, providing a warm, loving atmosphere for her loved ones. Her home was always open to all. Anne loved to give gifts and whether you were a friend or part of the family, you were blessed with jars of wild strawberry jam, a quilt, or a loaf of home-made bread. In her spare time, Anne was an avid reader and shared her books with others, she loved the outdoors and the wild animals around her. She went for walks daily, picked wild berries, loved to travel, enjoyed creating beautiful quilts on her treadle sewing machine, loved craft sales, antiques, participated yearly at the Savanna Fair, and hosted family, friends, and hunters at their beautiful home close to the Peace River. Anne and Karl drove down to Arizona every winter for 40 plus years. Their travels also took them to Europe, Papua New Guinea, Mexico, Florida, the Baja, and across Canada. Anne and Karl were married for 71 years. Anne honored, respected, and supported her husband Karl in all his ventures throughout their married life. Anne was a woman of great faith in God. Her faith and love for God remained constant to her very last days here on earth. Here is an excerpt from some of Anne’s journaling: “ . . . through reading the Bible . . . I learnt in a small way the extent of God’s love for each one of us. How much patience He has with us. “If any man (or woman) lack wisdom, let them ask of God who giveth to each one liberally and will not scold.” And another verse in Proverbs 31 says how our children will rise up and call us “blessed”. And it actually happened to me manifold. A great reward on this earth.”

Anne had a special, close friendship with each of her children. Anne is survived by her children: Jane (Dan), Karen (Bob), Lisa, son in-law Ron, daughter in-law Shelley; grandchildren: Jennifer, Maurissa, Kristen, Evan (Kristen), Regan, Adam (Melissa), Angela (Wade), Alison (Dale), Ross (Keri), and Alexandria; she was a dear great grandmother to: Xavier, Erik, Mathijs, Jasper, Avory, Jack, Benjamin, Parker, Alyssa, Rory, Samantha, Wesley, Wellington, Amelia, Levi, and Cooper. Anne is also survived by her siblings: Liz (Ed Redekopp), John (Betty) Dyck, Susie Frostad, and Bertha Emard.

Anne was predeceased by her loving husband Karl; and beloved children Zola Anne and Glen Karl.

We are so honored and abundantly blessed to have been loved so well.

Anne’s last 4 years saw her struggle with dementia yet her love for her family and her love for God continued to be constant and strong. Anne spent her last 2 1/2 years at Prairie Lake in Grande Prairie. Thank you to the staff at Prairie Lake for their kind and wonderful care of Anne.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 2:00pm, at the Savanna Agricultural Society Rec-Plex in Silver Valley, AB (81378 Range Rd 100). Pastor Mike Driedger will officiate.

A Livestream of the service will be accessible 15 minutes prior to the service on Anne’s obituary on Oliver’s Funeral Home website.

We are so sorry for the loss of your Mother and Sister. She sounds like a wonderful person. My husband Bob remembers her fondly whenever he meet her - her brother Frank was Bob's brother -in-law.
