Obituary For Andie Rae Aebly

It is with shattered hearts we announce the passing of our daughter Andie Rae Aebly. Andie passed away Thursday, September 30, 2021, at the age of 14 years. She left the world the way she lived, with tenacity and determination.

Andie decided to join the world January 5, 2007, on a stormy evening in Grande Prairie, AB. She came into the world on her own terms a month early, weighing a whopping 4lbs 15oz with the best head of hair around.

She was quickly taken to the Stollery Children’s Hospital where she stayed for 16 months. Andie went through an extensive medical journey with many procedures and operations but never did let it define her or hold her back.

When asked what she wanted to do, her response was always “I am up for anything.” Which usually included everything! Driving was her ultimate passion, it didn't matter what it was. Dirt bikes, quads, horses, pony trucks, driving games whether it was on an iPad, Xbox or PlayStation, she just wanted to go.

Even with her health limitations she truly enjoyed being active. She found joy in gymnastics, hockey, skiing, snowboarding, basketball, and Celtic Sports Academy where she got to try out a wide variety of activities.

Laughing was the key to Andie’s life. She was quick witted and loved to enlist laughter in others. In turn she would laugh until she couldn’t breathe. Andie had a truly infectious laugh.

She will be extremely missed by her parents Derek and Dale, brother Fraser, all of her blood and chosen extended family including numerous grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Andie was predeceased by her maternal grandparents Angele and Dave Fraser.

Thank you to all the doctors, nurses and all the hospital staff that helped Andie over the last 14 years in Edmonton and Toronto.

Celebration of Andie will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at The Aebly Farm (715024 RR74). People welcome at 4:00pm services start at 4:30pm.

Memorial Donations may be made to Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation (800 College Plaza, 8215-112 St., Edmonton, AB, T6G 2C8, https://www.stollerykids.com/) or Sick Kids Foundation in Toronto (https://www.sickkidsfoundation.com/).

I would just like to say I'm very sorry for your loss and I wish you guys all the best during this time! I didn't know Andie personally but I work at Ernies sports experts and have helped her out many times with skates, equipment and many other activities. From the times I helped her she was a very sweet and caring person and like you said witty! Even though I didn't know her personally I still enjoyed the time I had helping her chase her dreams even if it was selling her some equipment! Again I'm very sorry for your loss and the Ernies family is with you!

I am a teacher at St Joe's and although I didn't teach her personally, she left a mark on my heart. We chatted one day and I shared my love of the tv show Dawson Creek and for the female character who shared Andie's name. From that moment on, she always smiled when we passed each other in the hallway. She was truly a sweet little ray of sunshine. My thoughts and prayers are with the Aebly family during this tough time.

This is just heartbreaking 💔. Andie was the true definition of a "fighter". From a very young age she knew what she liked and wanted to do and what she didn't. I loved her spunk!! Andie has the most amazing family and Dale is the best mama! Andie lived and loved hard. She dealt with more medical issues than anyone should ever have to manage and she kept on being her feisty self. I knew the "toddler" Andie and she was an unforgettable highlight in my life. Hugs to all. Brenda Rowe

What can I say about Andie? We spent many hours together at many arenas in the Peace, mostly Wembley. She would help me in the clock box, running to get things, really anything I threw her way she would take on. I will miss that sassy smile, her infectious laugh and amazing attitude. Love that girl. My deepest and most heartfelt condolences go out to Derek, Dale, Fraser and family.
