Allen Wilson Lenny, longtime resident of Grande Prairie, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at the Grande Prairie Care Centre at the age of 98 years.

Allen was born on June 17, 1917, the third oldest of seven children in Grande Prairie and raised in the Bridge Creek and Grovedale area. Allen devoted his life to his family and friends.

Allen served in the Second World War with the First Canadian Infantry Troupes. When the war ended he returned to Grande Prairie to be with his relatives. Through the Veteran’s Land Act he received a soldier’s settlement grant and purchased a quarter section of land in Grovedale, AB. Later, he sold his property and worked in construction and other related fields of employment in the Grande Prairie area. Due to his age and disabilities, Allen was one of the first residents to move into the Dieppe Manor in 1984.

In 2009, because of his age, Allen moved to the Pioneer Lodge in Grande Prairie. In November 2012, he was placed into the Grande Prairie Care Centre where he enjoyed the company of friends and the comforts provided by the care centre staff.

Left to cherish his memory are his nephews and nieces, grand-nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.

Allen was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Louise Lenny; brothers: Dolphus, Francis (Scotty) and Gordon; sisters: Virginia Letendre, Margaret Sweeney, and Vivian Olson-Clark and his youngest sister Muriel Fair and nieces Muriel Olson and Edith Trump.

The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 11:00 am at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave). Interment to follow in the Grande Prairie Cemetery.
