We offer families the opportunity to prepare and submit obituary notices written in their own words. We believe this allows each tribute to authentically reflect the life and legacy of the individual. To honour each tribute, obituaries are published as approved by the family.

Obituary For Allen James Young

We are saddened to announce the passing of Allen James Young, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Calgary, AB, on Monday, August 10, 2026, at home, at the age of 63.

Allen was born on January 25, 1963, in Calgary. He completed junior high school in Calgary and moved to Port Hardy, BC, to attend high school. After graduating, he began working in the forestry industry. Eventually, Allen pursued a career in the explosives field with CIL Explosives and Orica Canada.

He excelled in a variety of sports and especially enjoyed baseball. He also loved hockey, curling, swimming, snowmobiling, and motorcycling. We will always remember Allen for his appreciation of good company and his quick, sarcastic wit that kept his friends laughing. He was happiest with a dog at his side.

Allen will be dearly missed by his children, Christopher Thomas DeMoe and Braydon DeMoe; his grandchildren, twins Paxton and Jarret, and Cade; his mother, Kathleen Young (née Stevenson); his siblings, Thomas (Janet) Young, Janice (Mike) Kozak, and Jill (Earl) Basnett; as well as his nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, James Anderson Young, and his sister, Catherine Lynne Ferguson.

The memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005-107 Ave). Following the service, friends are invited to join the family for refreshments and desserts in Oliver’s Tea Room.

In honour of Allen, memorial donations may be made to The Kidney Foundation of Canada (www.kidney.ca/) or a charity of your choice.

Forever loved, forever remembered.
