Obituary For Alison Frissell

Alison Frissell, resident of Beaverlodge, Alberta, formerly of Northborough, England, United Kingdom, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at her residence at the age of 82 years.

Alison was born on November 14, 1943, in Pinner, Middlesex County, England, to parents William John Maddock and Margaret Vera Maddock (née Forrest). Alison had three sisters: Vivienne, Valerie, and Kathleen.

After graduating from high school, she began working at a local newspaper office as a proofreader. She went on to attend Bradford and Ilkley Community College from 1967 to 1969 and later received her Certificate in Education from Leeds University in England.

In 1967, Alison met William “Jim” James Frissell, and in 1969, they were married in Northborough. Alison moved with Jim to Germany, where they stayed until November of 1969. Jim was then transferred to Shilo, Manitoba, due to his service with the military. They relocated multiple times throughout the following years, and in 1980, finally settled in Beaverlodge.

Alison was a homemaker for many years. She sacrificed pursuing her career to make sure she was able to raise her son instead of a daycare raising him. She was also heavily involved in the church and any local or church choirs, no matter where they lived. Once they settled in Beaverlodge, she volunteered even more of her time and took on various roles with St. Luke’s Anglican Church. Alison taught Sunday School and played the church organ. She dedicated countless hours to musical productions at the church, as well as at Beaverlodge Elementary School, assisting with staging and teaching songs to the children.

In 1988, Alison became a full-time assistant at Beaverlodge Elementary School. She helped Grade 6 students upgrade their education, who would have been otherwise ineligible to enter junior high. Later that year, Alison pursued her own upgrading through Athabasca University, obtaining her Canadian Certificate in Education. In 1991, she was a substitute teacher for both the County and City of Grande Prairie, along with the Roman Catholic School Board. Around 1994 or 1995, Alison began working as a night auditor at the Beaverlodge Motor Inn. She worked the night shift for more than 20 years, retiring around 2015.

After retiring, Alison spent the remaining years dedicated to her family and church. She was incredibly proud of becoming one of the church’s lay readers. She also greatly enjoyed leading the occasional Sunday service and being part of the ACW (Anglican Church Women).

With an uncanny sense of humour, Alison was a force of nature and a beacon of unconditional love. She was the most selfless, caring, loving, and generous person you could ever hope to meet. Alison was consistently outgoing, optimistic, and genuinely interested in others. She loved reading, playing the piano, and being part of the church. Her passion for musicals led her to perform in various plays at the Grande Prairie Live Theatre. Because of her compassion for all animals, she was always feeding the birds, stray cats, and any other stray that came by, including deer. Alison was an excellent cook and baker. She was an accomplished seamstress and skilled in embroidery. Family was everything to Alison. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life, and she was always ready to help or spoil them. She made it a point that when they turned 16, she would take them to England. This would ensure they could meet their distant relatives and develop a better understanding of their roots from her side of the family.

Alison will be sadly missed by her husband, William “Jim” James Frissell; her son, William “Jay” Douglas James Frissell (Brenda); and her grandchildren, Shaylene (Daniel), Angel, and Riley.

Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke’s Anglican Church in Beaverlodge (314-10th Street), followed by light refreshments.

For those who cannot attend in person, the service will be livestreamed. The link will be available shortly before the service begins.

While every effort is made to ensure a smooth livestream, technical or broadcast issues may occasionally occur beyond the control of Oliver’s Funeral Home.
