Obituary For Alexander William Gorrie

Alec William Gorrie, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2022, at Prairie Lake Hospice, at the age of 89 years.

Alec was born in Grande Prairie to John and Helen Gorrie. Growing up on a homestead farm in the Bear Lake area he attended the Canuck School. This is where he met Jean Jackson. They married in 1953 and together raised their family in Grande Prairie. Alec enjoyed a long career with Alberta Power/ATCO Electric. Farming never left his blood, he continued to farm the home quarter and purchased more land in the area. He hobby farmed into his 80s, one of the last old timers left in the area.

Alec had an amazing sense of humour, was always ready with a joke, always loved to visit family and friends, and was willing to help others whenever possible.

Alec met and married Isabel in the early 90s and remained happily together until his passing. Horses were a passion he shared with Isabel. They spent countless hours at the racetrack and hauling horses around Alberta to different racing events.

Alec will be sadly missed by his wife Isabel Gorrie; son Randy (Dorothy) Gorrie; step-daughters: Joanne (Martin) Gidney, Tracy (Dean) Johnson, and Susan (Brent) Bibby; grandchildren: Jessie (Clayton) Doll, Sean (Karlee) Gorrie, Shawna Rogerson, Brayden Bibby, Kaleb Bibby, and RJ Chmelyk; great-grandchildren: Alexzander Doll, Izabella Doll, Dawn Rogerson, Keefe Young, Levi Young, and Shelby Young; brother Harold Gorrie; as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Alec was predeceased by his daughter Debbie Gorrie; parents John and Helen Gorrie; brothers Bill, Jack, and David; as well as sisters Betty and Helen.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff and care team at Emerald Gardens, the doctors and nurses in the ICU at Grande Prairie Regional hospital, and the loving care team at Prairie Lake Hospice.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023, at 2:00pm, at Oliver's Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).
